Typography for beginners with Prof Phil Baines
Sat 4 June 2016
11:00 am - 4:00 pm
£50
A day of practical, old-school exercises to illuminate the three key aspects of typography:
- The forms of letters themselves, and what distinguishes the main kinds of typefaces from each other;
- The associative (and illustrative) power of letters to give a ‘voice’ to a piece of text;
- The basic mechanics of using type as text: space between letters, words, and lines; the balance of type size to line length and leading; the articulation of text by paragraphs, headings.
Throughout the day there will be an opportunity to explore the museum’s collection to further explain and illustrate ideas.
Cost includes materials, lunch & refreshments.
