About the Talk

In this talk, Jane Traies looks at the shared private life that underpinned Hilary Bourne and Barbara Allen’s success.

Hilary and Barbara lived together for nearly 40 years. They ran the highly successful textile studio Bourne & Allen, which designed and produced textiles for the costumes for Ben Hur, the curtains for the Royal Festival Hall and the cushion covers for the UK’s first jet planes.

The museum’s exhibition; Double Weave: Bourne and Allen’s Modernist Textiles aims to restore Bourne and Allen to their rightful place in the history of textiles in the mid-twentieth century.

Join Jane Traies, one of the curatorial team for Double Weave for an enlightening talk on these incredible women.
