Sun Printing: Magical Camera-less Photography

with Faye Heller

Thu 6 April 2023
11:00 am
- 3:00 pm

Suitable for children aged 8 -13

The Workshop

In this exciting exploratory workshop for children, you will forage for plant specimens, cut up foodstuffs and assemble unique compositions. These will then be exposed to the sun to create beautiful blueprints using the wonders of cyanotype printing on high-quality art paper and tote bags.

Cyanotype prints are produced with photosensitive chemicals which when exposed to sunlight (UV light) turn blue creating exquisite results.

Children will also view the exhibition Shoji Hamada: A Japanese Potter in Ditchling and respond using mark making to create more abstract cyanotype compositions in this sun printing workshop.

The Workshop Leader

Faye Heller studied Fine Art at The Slade School, University College London and is a qualified teacher. She has been making art for over 30 years and has exhibited widely.

She was recently the Lead Artist on the Pam Burr Trust funded project with Ditchling St Margaret’s CE School which produced a large mural, ‘Wild Ditchling Common’.  This was inspired by Frank Brangwyn’s work with local people whilst living in Ditchling. It contained contributions from children throughout the school.

Shōji Hamada: A Japanese Potter in Ditchling runs 22 October 2022 – 16 April 2023
