Ancient Treasures: Pewter Casting
with Dalia Mcmillan
Sat 20 May 2023 £90
10:00 am - 4:00 pm
In this one-day workshop, participants will design and create moulds using natural materials and ancient techniques with clay, sand and cuttlefish bone, and then use molten pewter to create a unique, wearable piece.
Participants will enjoy a walk around the exhibition, Signs of the Seaside and look at examples of silversmithing from the museum’s permanent collection for inspiration before creating their own designs and discovering the organic texture of local cuttlefish, one of Dalia’s favourite coastal materials to cast with.
After a local, vegetarian lunch, the metal casts will be finished using files and emery papers, creating a wearable piece to take away and enjoy for years to come.
Materials and lunch included.
