The Talk

Frank Brangwyn was a muralist, oil painter, watercolourist, etcher, lithographer, wood engraver and designer of interiors, furniture, carpets, ceramics and stained glass. The artist produced over 12,000 works during his lifetime. He was arguably the first British artist to gain an international reputation and certainly the first living artist to be honoured with a retrospective at the Royal Academy.  The lecture will provide an overview of all the disciplines with which the artist was involved, with special reference to the Skinner’s Hall murals, and a discussion of his life in Ditchling.

Libby Horner

Libby Horner is a freelance art historian, curator, film producer, lecturer and the world’s leading authority on Brangwyn. She has published numerous articles and books about the artist including Frank Brangwyn: Stained Glass (2010), Brangwyn @ WAR! (2014), Brangwyn’s ‘Pots’, catalogue of ceramics and glassware (2018) and Christ’s Hospital Murals (2019). She is currently finalising details for Brangwyn’s Big Prints Book. Lectures beautifully illustrated and delivered with a sense of humour!
