Colours from Nature
An exhibition of work created by students of Jenny Dean’s natural dyeing course
Fri 4 November 2022 @ 10:30 am - Sun 6 November 2022 @ 5:00 pm
This 3 day pop-up show in our Clore Learning Space and parlour will celebrate the work of recent and former graduates of Jenny Dean’s popular 6-month natural dyeing course.
Ditchling’s heritage and Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft’s collection is rich with natural dyeing and textile craft, and the South Downs is one of the most biodiverse areas in Europe. The likes of Ethel Mairet, Valentine KilBride, Hilary Bourne and Barbara Allen all helped revive interest around natural dyeing in the 20th century, which DMAC now celebrates with its own Dye Garden run by volunteers, alongside an ever-expanding learning programme around natural dyeing.
Artists featured: Allan Brown, Vicki Cowin, Fiona Eastwood, Ginny Farquha, Samantha Jones, Deb King, Zuzana Krskova, Judith Isaac- Lewis, Ali Rabjohns, Tort Robinson and Claire Shoosmith
Curated by Jenny Dean, Charlotte Hailey-Watts (Learning and Public Programme Manager) and the artists
Recent and former graduates of Jenny Dean’s course will be invigilating the show and will be happy to speak to you about the work on display.
Entry to Colours from Nature is included in your museum admission ticket for our current exhibition.
