Introduction to Weaving with Jenny KilBride (Taster Workshop) – Sat 25 Jan – SOLD OUT
Saturday 25 January
£35 inc. materials + refreshments
Learn the basics of hand-weaving using simple frame looms. Jenny will teach you about the technical vocabulary and share stories of growing up in the Guild in Ditchling of which Jenny and her father were both members. Her father Valentine KilBride worked with Ethel Mairet and has items on display in the museum. You’ll make 1 or 2 samplers to take home with you.
Jenny KilBride trained as a weaver and dyer with her father Valentine KilBride. The family silk-weaving workshop was part of the Guild of St Joseph and St Dominic, a community of craftsmen founded by Eric Gill in 1920 on Ditchling Common in Sussex and specialised in making silk vestments and church furnishings. When the Guild was wound up in 1989, Jenny followed a different career in arts administration, but in 2015 returned to her roots and set up her workshop again. Her great interest is in natural dyeing on silk and wool fibre.
