Dyeing Now: Contemporary Makers Celebrate Ethel Mairet’s Legacy
When we launched the exhibition Dyeing Now: Contemporary Makers Celebrate Ethel Mairet’s Legacy in late 2016, little did we know how great the response would be. Intended to celebrate the centenary of Mairet’s A Book on Vegetable Dyes and initially starting out with a handful of naturally dyed wool, cotton, silk and linen skeins, word about the project spread and soon contributions were coming in from all over the world. The final tally totaled 507 skeins sent in by 85 contributors from 8 countries, an apt testimony to the power of Ethel Mairet.
We are excited to be launching a book which collates all the images of the skeins inspired by Ethel Mairet, sent to us from across the globe.
