Bob & Roberta Smith: Why Do We Communicate?
12 March 2016 – 11 September 2016
Bob & Roberta Smith’s new display for Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft is a mini retrospective of the artist’s sign-written work combined with new pieces developed after his visit to the museum. Initially trained as a sign painter in New York, Bob & Roberta Smith launched the Art Party in 2013 to advocate for the arts to Government. He was elected as a Royal Academician in the same year. Smith’s campaigning often employs his characteristic typography on banners and placards as well as performance work. He has campaigned against the closure of the Cass Art School and Tower Hamlet’s proposed sale of Henry Moore’s ‘Old Flo’ sculpture, as well as standing against Michael Gove in the 2015 general election.
