Anna Bera: British Council Artist in Residence
22 September - 20 October
To co-incide with the exhibition New Truth to Materials: Wood, the museum will play host to a British Council international artist in residence in partnership with the Polish Cultural Institute. Artist Anna Bera is a Polish artist who founded The Whole Elements design studio and Dzikie Dzieci (Wild Children) after graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań.
Bera’s work draws inspiration from research on the human relationship with nature in a biological, cultural and spiritual context. As part of her research during the residency, she will explore the practices of local craftspeople and examine their attitudes to woodworking and wood itself, as well as exploring the South Downs National Park to search for inspiring artefacts and creating a kind of wood laboratory. This ‘laboratory’ will consist of natural objects both found and made during her residency.
Anna will be based at the museum for 4 weeks during the exhibition creating work inspired by her residency in our Clore Learning Space, and will also contribute to our workshops and events programme.
